Hospice Open Gardens

Programme

As well as enjoying the beautiful Hospice gardens, you can also attend a number of talks and workshops on the day. These talks are free and included in your entry ticket with the exception of the teacup flower arranging workshop.

All day: Plants by Ogie Placido. Recently, featured on BBC Gardeners World, Ogie will be selling Carnivorous plants, Cacti and Succulents. He is regularly seen at Somerset Farmers Markets, St. Nicholas Market, Local Flower Shows and Charity events.  

  • 10:00-10:45 Teacup flower arranging workshop with Shirley, volunteer florist at the Hospice. During this floral workshop, led by Shirley, one of our experienced volunteer flower arrangers, you’ll make a small floral arrangement in a recycled china teacup and saucer from one of our shops. Seasonal flowers and foliage will be provided from the Hospice Garden where possible. Suitable for beginners. This workshop costs £15 including your entry ticket. Online booking has now closed for this but a limited number of places may be available on the day.

  • 10:30-10.50 Garden tour with Anneke, Head Gardener at the Hospice

  • 11:00-11:30 A talk with Andy Winfield, Senior Botanical Horticulturist at University of Bristol. Andy has worked at The University of Bristol Botanic Garden for over twenty years. In that time the Garden has moved, been reimagined, and its purpose and direction has changed beyond recognition. In this talk he will outline his experiences at the Garden over the years, and ask, what is a Botanic Garden today?

  • 13:00-13:20 Garden tour with Anneke, Head Gardener at the Hospice

  • 13:00-13:45 Teacup flower arranging workshop with Shirley, volunteer florists at the Hospice. This workshop costs £15 including your entry ticket. Online booking has now closed for this but a limited number of places may be available on the day.

  • 14:00-14:45 A talk with Jane Porter. The multi-award winning Chelsea Garden Designer, will be sharing her insights about her design process for Chelsea Flower Show Gardens. Join us as we hear Jane delve into where inspiration comes from and how a concept is translated into reality.
