Patient Care Stories
Hospice care is holistic care. Our support is focused around physical, psychological, social and spiritual care, as we reassure, comfort and guide people through every stage of their journey.
This Hospice Care Week, we're celebrating our Occupational Therapists, Physios, Social Workers, Psychological Support Therapists, Complimentary Therapists and Spiritual and Multi Faith Team. These team members form a vital part of the holistic care we provide.
These teams are dedicated to giving patients and their families the best possible care and support, whether that's in their own homes, through our virtual groups or in our Inpatient Unit. Everyone is unique, and we provide support with that in mind. Our goal is to help our patients live well and support their families and friends.
Find out what working at the Hospice means to some of these team members...
Melanie, Complementary Therapy Co-ordinator
"The most rewarding part of the job for me is to see how patients truly benefit from receiving complementary therapy. We see this first hand in how the treatments we give can instil a sense of calm, ease anxiety and improve general wellbeing for the patient."
Ralph, Multi Faith Team Lead
"Working at the Hospice means that I get the honour of supporting our patients and families in what matters most to them, this is the aim of the spiritual care we provide. Whether it be talking about faith, or talking about films, music, gardening or whatever has given meaning to someone's life, my team and I are here for them."
Gill, Physiotherapist
"Working at the Hospice means that I can make a difference helping my patients with the little things that are important to them. It gives them some control back over their lives, especially in helping them manage fatigue and breathlessness."
Jeanette, Social Worker
"It is humbling to be allowed into patients and their families' lives at such an emotional and extremely difficult time. Sometimes this can bring up personal emotions but we are very well supported to explore and manage this at the Hospice."
Anne, Occupational Therapist
"It is a privilege to work alongside people who are nearing the end of their life. I enjoy hearing their life stories and learning about the person behind the illness, and if I can make life just a little bit easier with Occupational Therapy intervention then that can be very rewarding."
Ella, Psychological Support Therapist
"My passion is to work therapeutically and creatively with individuals, groups, and families in order to process difficult experiences. It is incredibly rewarding to see how the people that we work with benefit from the psychological and emotional service that our team offers."
