We were thrilled to be invited by Bristol Waste Company to receive a cheque for £16,139 at their Hartcliffe Way Recycling Centre earlier this month. Since 2018, Bristol Waste has raised over £24,697 for the Hospice, through the profits generated by their Reuse stores in St Phillips, Avonmouth and Hartcliffe Way. In 2022, the organisation also held a staff raffle to fundraise in memory of the daughter of a Bristol Waste colleague.
Bristol Waste Company CEO, Dave Knight, presented the cheque to our Chief Executive, Susan Hamilton and explained: "Although we're a commercial company, it's not just about money. We're far more interested in the social value of what we do."
He added: "Last year, we handed over a cheque to you and it was really quite an eye-opener, I was with one of our staff members and his daughter was at the Hospice. We went out into the Hospice garden and chatted for about an hour. It was interesting to hear about the bereavement support he had received. It was really powerful and it stuck with me, which is why I'm so pleased we're doing this today. I will absolutely remember that hour in the garden with him - it had quite a profound impact on me, so I'm delighted that we're able to support the fantastic work that the Hospice does."
Susan highlighted that receiving the support of local businesses is essential to funding the wide range of services we offer, at the Hospice and in people's homes: "We support over 3,000 patients in the Bristol area every year... we want to continue reaching more people". Our support ranges from pain and symptom management, to emotional and psychological therapy for patients and their families, before and after bereavement.
Thank you, Bristol Waste Company!
