Mervyn Brooks’ family have created this fundraising page to thank St Peter’s Hospice for their wonderful ‘hospice at home’ care during our time of need. The support offered by St Peter’s Hospice was indispensable, and allowed our family’s final memories of Mervyn to be peaceful.
Mervyn Brooks was an incredible husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. He was a hard-working and diligent man, who loved his wife and family dearly. He has left a legacy of love, and will be remembered fondly in the hearts of the family he created.
Mervyn had a brilliant mind, and his memory was infallible. A bus and taxi driver in Bristol for over 10 years, he knew every road of the city by heart. His grandchildren will all agree he had knowledge on every topic, which he shared with a kind and gentle nature. Mervyn could never resist a logic problem or cryptic crossword, and having him on your quiz team was essentially cheating. His humble demeanour gave his intellect a charming subtlety which was so admirable, and meant his children and grandchildren all looked up to him with great respect.
Not just an intelligent man, Mervyn lived his life with warmth and humour. He never did shy away from wearing a funny costume, and adored making his children and grandchildren laugh. Never one to take himself too seriously, his playful outlook on life has given his family dozens of joyful memories to cherish.
Right up until he passed, Mervyn’s sharp wit and warm sense of humour shone. We were blessed to still have his brilliant personality with us, and St Peter’s Hospice helped to ensure we got to enjoy his company knowing he felt safe, comfortable, and in control. Crucially, St Peter's Hospice also gave our family a sense of safety, helping us to not feel so lost during an impossibly difficult time for us all.
Though Mervyn is irreplaceable, and losing him has left an unfillable hole in our lives, we are better able to grieve and heal from our loss thanks to the support we received from St Peter's Hospice.
Mervyn’s cremation is on Thursday 1st June. Mervyn requested a no-attend cremation, so in lieu of flowers, we are raising money for charity.
If you are able, please make a contribution to St Peter's Hospice in memory of the brilliant Mervyn Brooks.
Thank you for the support and care you gave our grandad and the rest of our family.
