Bob Emery

Loving husband, proud father, bad joke devotee.

Bob at his heart was a family man and once said that his three most important achievements in life were his marriage to Claire and being father to his two sons. He often travelled for work but wherever possible would always make the return the journey the same day to be home at night and see his family before bed, even if only briefly.

For other people, Bob was known for being a big man with a kind spirit and wicked sense of humour. Ever the keen sportsman he gave his all in bowls, bowling and bowling (ten pin and cricket) whilst faithfully supporting his beloved Bristol Rovers. Bob regularly went to Rovers matches for 30 years with his friend Steve and legend has it he did see them win once.

Bob was diagnosed in March 2023 with bile duct cancer. Initially, medics were not willing to give six months as a prognosis, through sheer determination he bounced back from a series of complications time and time again with a bravery to which we can all aspire. He successfully completed a programme of chemotherapy in December 23 and rebuilt his fitness to enjoy a sea cruise to Italy and Croatia and celebrate his 66th birthday in May with his wife and close friends Deborah and Dylan.

However, his 18 months could not have been achieved without the support of his family and circle of loyal friends - a special thanks to you all.

In the final weeks, St Peter's Hospice gave specialist support and advice to help Bob and his family facilitate his desire to stay at home pain free and in comfort. He passed peacefully at home on the 4th of September.
