Hello, I'm Keith and I'm the Manager at the Hospice's Horfield Charity Shop and Coffee Shop.
I've worked for the Hospice since 2018. After redundancy from Tesco I volunteered at the British Heart Foundation and felt the enjoyment of supporting a great cause. I then looked at opportunities at St Peter's Hospice specifically as they looked after a family friend.
My average day is a little different to other shop managers at the Hospice as I manage both a shop and coffee shop. As well as receiving donations, supporting the staff and volunteers to sort, price and display the stock generously given, I will also support the coffee shop team which could be washing up, making coffees and teas or making toast. I enjoy the variety.
The most rewarding part of my work is knowing that everything we do in the shop or coffee shop will directly benefit the care that the amazing clinical teams give, either in the Inpatient Unit or in people's own homes.
I recently spoke to a man who recently lost his wife and was donating some of her belongings. She had been looked after by the Hospice and as hard as it was to let his wife's items go he was resolute that he wanted them to come to us to generate income so that the care given to her could be given to others.
The care given to patients is a great motivator to do our best and I find the generosity of volunteers working in the shop and the people who donate to the Hospice particularly heartwarming.
If you're interested in retail opportunities at St Peter's Hospice, we'd love to hear from you. Take a look at our retail roles on our current vacancies page.
